Outreach

Engagement with the community is a priority in the Terry Lab — not only is it fun and rewarding, it is essential to changing the perception of who is a scientist and to building a scientifically literate public capable of engaging with the complex challenges of our time. ## Programs & Partnerships

Interactive Game

Finding Lake Chewaucan

A collaborative educational video game developed with Meaghan Emery-Wetherell (University of Arizona) and supported by an NSF grant. The 3D explorer features minigames that replicate real scientific processes drawn from paleontological, archaeological, geological, and ecological research around ancient Lake Chewaucan in the Oregon desert. An alpha version is available for download.

Citizen Science

PelletMap Project

A partner program with elementary students across Oregon, organized through OSU's SMILE program. Participants dissect owl, hawk, eagle, and falcon pellets to identify bones and record data on species distribution. The project introduces students to terrestrial ecology, bone identification, and the practice of scientific data collection.

Museum Exhibit

Of Mice and Meadows

A multimedia exhibit at the Natural History Museum of Utah, developed in collaboration with Rebecca Rowe and Rebecca Menlove. The exhibit addresses climate change, habitat alteration, and range shifts in Great Basin small mammals, connecting paleontological records with contemporary conservation concerns.

## Community Partners We regularly engage with the following organizations and programs: - OSU Discovery Days - Integrative Biology Department Open House - Academy for Life-Long Learning - Benton County Public Library - Fish, Wildlife & Conservation Sciences Department's *Wild About Wildlife* program - Oregon K–12 schools through SMILE and other outreach pipelines
